Rent a Van near Hallstatt, Austria and Explore the Stunning Salzkammergut Region

Salzkammergut is a gem nestled in the Austrian Alps that should not be missed when on a road trip starting in Frankfurt or Munich heading south to Venice Italy.

Stunning Natural Beauty: Salzkammergut is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including alpine lakes, mountains, and valleys. The region is home to 76 lakes, each of them offering stunning vistas and numerous recreational activities like swimming, sailing, and fishing.

Hallstatt Village: This picturesque village on the shores of Lake Hallstatt is one of Austria's most photographed spots. Its charming houses, historic market square, and the ancient Hallstatt Salt Mine are must-sees.

Parking with a Sprinter van in Hallstatt is possible, but plan a 10 - 15 min walk to reach the tram up to the Saltmine. Speaking of, the saltmine visit is phenomenal, taking you back over 5000 years. Walking and taking a small train into the heart of the mountain is a goosebump experience from start to finish.
BTW, the Salzkammergut is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its history of salt production dating back to prehistoric times.

If you're an outdoor enthusiast driving a Sprinter van, or Metris / Vklasse van then the Salzkammergut will not disappoint. Park your packed Mercedes Benz van full of luggage is, in our experience, safe pretty much anywhere near the outdoor activities. The Vklass has the benefit of the low roof, which can be parked at most all hotels indoor parking structures. There are opportunities for hiking right from town. Cycling, rock climbing, and even skiing in the winter months. The Dachstein Salzkammergut region has some of the best hiking trails in the world with overnight stays at remote cabins.

Culinary Delights: Salzkammergut offers a variety of traditional Austrian delicacies. From freshly caught fish from its lakes to local cheeses and pastries, your taste buds are in for a treat.

Spa and Wellness: If relaxation is your goal, the thermal spas of Bad Ischl and Bad Aussee in Salzkammergut offer therapeutic waters renowned for their healing properties.

In short, a van trip through the Salzkammergut will enrich your journey through southern Germany, Austria, the Alps and Northern Italy for sure.
