The Sprinter’s five-speed automatic trany never complains about shifting under heavy loads and also has the option of manual shift, this comes in handy to save your brakes when you come down long hills. This is also what helps the Sprinter achieve such great fuel economy. Mercedes rates the Sprinter at 20 mpg average empty and 18.6 mpg average with a 1500-pound payload.
We achieved 17mpg on average but our Sprinter is no light strip model. Our 170-inch-wheelbase Sprinter started at $48,200 and, by the time all the extra features were installed, we were rolling in a $63,365 van.

Extra insulation with the auxiliary heater also further softened down road and engine noise and helped make the Sprinter a comfortable place to spend several hours of the day.

In the end the Sprinter is the van to turn to when smaller vans arent good enough. The base price is more than $10,000 higher than its competitors but still, for that you get better fuel economy, greater features, comfort, capability, and way way more cargo space. Decide for yourself.

This wasn’t our virgin experience with the Sprinter as a support vehicle. We looked for a van to do the same last year. We chose a high roof 3500 Cargo Van then. That didn’t have the visibility of this year’s Passenger Van, as Cargos have no side or rear windows. We made easy use of the tie-down points (included in both the Cargo or Passenger Van) and packed the cavernous cargo area. Actually we had so much room for gear that we had enough space to carry a motorcycle, in this case a Harley Davidson Soft Tail.

So happy we were with the Sprinter that we came back to it this time around.
